Join NRCM for a Bird Walk at Perham Stream Birding Trail in Madrid with Allison & Jeff Wells!
Join NRCM’s bird experts and authors of the book, Maine’s Favorite Birds, Allison and Jeff Wells, for a leisurely bird walk in Madrid, in the beautiful Rangeley region. We’ll welcome newly arriving warblers like Northern Parula, Black-throated Green, and the dazzling Blackburnian as White-throated Sparrows and other species serenade us along the trail. Enjoying Maine’s beautiful birds is a wonderful way to spend a May morning!
The event will start at 8:00 a.m. at the start of the Perham Stream Birding Trail (553 E Madrid Rd, Town of Madrid, ME 04966). Please prepare for a two-hour gentle walk of up to a mile, through five birding "sub-habitats," including field, alder thicket with hardwood wetland, mixed-wood forest dominated with hardwood, mixed wood with stream, and field/stream edges.
Please note that portions of the East Madrid Road are unpaved, but maintained. We will meet at the parking area in time for a prompt 8:00 a.m. start. Parking is very limited at the trailhead. Please consider carpooling from the Farmington Park and Ride. Please note this is prime blackfly season, and possibly could be wet. There are no restrooms on site; the closest restrooms are a few miles away in Phillips at either the Local Bull or Valley Brook Variety.
This event is free, but space is very limited. Reserve your spot by April 22!
