Help Protect Maine’s Endangered Species
Send a message to Congresswoman Pingree asking for
increased funding for endangered species.
Wildlife is a big part of our identity in Maine, but many species are increasingly threatened by climate change, habitat loss, invasive species, and pollution.
The Endangered Species Act (ESA) is one of our nation’s most effective environmental laws and our best tool for restoring at-risk species. Over time, the ESA has prevented more than 99 percent of listed species from going extinct in the U.S., including 9 animal species and 3 plant species currently listed in Maine.
The ESA has been severely underfunded for decades; significantly more funding is critical for recovery and conservation of our most at-risk species. Protecting wildlife helps maintain healthy ecosystems. It’s also the right thing to do. To be most effective, the ESA needs expanded funding in the FY22 Appropriations bill. If Congress does not provide increased funding, endangered species could continue to move closer to extinction. Congresswoman Pingree is a strong champion for Maine’s environment and wildlife and chairs the committee that determines this funding.
